POC San Juan (Telde)

POC San Juan Park - Telde (CPO-CA2)

We welcome you to “San Juan Park Permanent Orienteering Circuit” in Telde, the oldest city in Gran Canaria and the second most populated municipality on the island with around 100,000 inhabitants.

Very close to the CPO Parque de San Juan is one of the most visited places in the municipality, the Basilica of San Juan Bautista, an impressive religious building built in the 15th century that has an impressive architecture and houses outstanding works of religious art.

Also within the town centre is the Casa-Museo León y Castillo, a beautiful 19th century mansion that was home to two important political figures of Gran Canaria, the brothers Juan and Fernando León y Castillo. The museum has exhibitions that offer an insight into the history and culture of the island.

Telde invites you to enjoy nature in the rural park of Doramas (hiking, leisure…) or on one of its beaches: Playa del Hombre, Playa de Melenara and Playa de Salinetas. You can also visit some of its many archaeological sites and in the nearby neighbourhood of Jinámar (Telde) you will also find the CPO Jaime O’Shanahan Park (CPO-CA3).

Finally, Telde’s gastronomy, which includes typical dishes such as sancocho canario, gofio and queso de flor, cannot go unmentioned. Visitors can sample these delicacies in the town’s numerous restaurants and bars.
